Summary: The Indiana Conservative Alliance for Energy seeks a motivated and passionate individual who has a strong desire to change the traditional debate around energy policy to advance conservative clean energy solutions. The ideal candidate should be excited to work on a small but robust and growing team to influence the development of a young, successful organization, as well as be prepared to learn and grow on the job. Working directly with the ICAE Executive Director, the Program Director will plan and execute programing throughout the year, manage communications, work to grow the organization’s network and coalitions, and assist in day-to-day administrative functions for the organization. Success in this role will require an individual who is organized, self-motivating, able to excel with little direct supervision, and willing to learn new skills in a “startup” environment. Duties and Responsibilities: The following are essential functions of the position. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Coordinate, plan, and execute programming throughout the state including tours, conferences, and virtual events. Manage new projects and initiatives as they arise.
  2. Draft regular e-newsletters and maintain and grow an email distribution list.
  3. Keep website up to date with recent news, blog posts, press releases, etc. Monitor site activity and respond to comments.
  4. Manage ICAE social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), post latest energy related news stories as well as photos and videos from events. Monitor comments and respond to questions.
  5. Work with CEN communications team and stakeholder partners to regularly draft press releases, op-eds, and LTEs. Publish press releases and maintain state media list.
  6. Support the development of educational and outreach materials in line with ICAE’s organizational mission and objectives.
  7. Assist the Executive Director in scheduling and managing podcasts.
  8. Support the development and tracking of ICAE annual budget and draft reports with accountant for executive director and board of directors.
  9. Draft quarterly programming reports.
  10. Maintain office calendar and support administrative functions as needed, working with the executive director, accountant, legal counsel, and CEN leadership.
  11. Work with Executive Director to plan annual board of directors meeting.
  12. Help manage relations with board of directors, donors, and coalitions.
  13. Attend biannual CEN conference to collaborate with all CEN state organizations, as well as attend general energy conferences around the state of Indiana.
  14. Participate in monthly CEN Midwest Regional call and other CEN calls as needed.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university in communications, political science, or another relevant field.

Specialized Training:

  1. Experience working for issue advocacy nonprofits, public affairs firms, political campaigns, or government is preferred.
  2. Experience working in energy a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:

  1. Excellent verbal communication skills and willingness to work effectively with a small team.
  2. Top notch writing/editing skills, experience distilling complicated issues in memos, reports, press releases, and digital communication platforms.
  3. Basic graphic design skills for social media, web, Microsoft PowerPoint, and print materials are preferred.
  4. Outstanding time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage and meet deadlines and balance multiple priorities at once.
  5. An entrepreneurial spirit, interest in learning new skills, and eagerness to advance the goals of ICAE.

Computer Skills:

Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is necessary. Experience with design programs (including Photoshop, Canva, and/or other similar design applications), online or email marketing platforms (such as Squarespace, Constant Contact, MailChimp, or another), and QuickBooks or other online financial management tools is preferred.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to effectively solve complex problems in a variety of situations and by deadline. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
